Another three 888poker players became poker champions on May 24 in the $1.5 million guaranteed XL Spring Series. All three events were freezeouts, a format that is something of a rarity in the modern online poker world. All three events were well attended, going to show the freezeout format is still popular with tournament grinders.
Romania Claims an XL Spring Series Title
The fifth numbered event of the XL Spring Series was a $215 buy-in tournament that saw 170 entrants create a $34,000 prize pool that the top 30 finishers shared.
$574 was the least any of the nine finalists could walk away with, and was the sum Brazilian Vinicius “viinig” Camargo Goncalves banked after his untimely demise in ninth place. New Zealand’s “CrackFiend15” busted in eighth and won the tournament’s last three-figure sum, namely $782.
Each of the surviving players were now guaranteed to take home four-figure prizes ranging between $1,071 and $7,622. British duo “33betwizkid” and Michael “HyperX.” Skeldon crashed out, leaving the tournament short-handed.
Malta’s “Its0kay,” winner of an XL Spring Series event a couple of days ago, saw their latest deep run end in fifth place, a finish worth $2,026. Then came the exits of “henninh0” and “Emil8915,” which left “vigge1111” of Sweden heads-up against Romania’s “cretzzuu93.” It was the Romanian who came out on top and who banked $7,622 in prize money, resigning their Swedish opponent to a $5,440 consolation prize.
