A loose cannon in Friday’s Hustler Casino Live game did everything he could to punt off a $301,000 pot. But the poker gods had other plans.
The insane hand wasn’t the first time we’ve seen a player on HCL get carried away with eight-rag … this week. “Jellyfish,” who had just lost a $220,000 pot on a missed flush draw against Ryan Feldman’s flopped set on Wednesday, played 8-3 offsuit all the way to the river against pocket aces and would eventually call it all off with just bottom pair to lose a $207,000 pot.
More of the same occurred two days later on the same livestream poker show. This time around, however, the outcome was different.
Wild Poker Hand
The $100/$200 no-limit hold’em cash game played bigger than the blinds, with plenty of straddles and a Stand-Up game in play. Nikhil “Nik Airball” Arcot headlined the game, and quickly fell into a $270,000 hole before digging his way back to only being down just over $100,000 at the time of publishing.
Airball, who was in the game for $1 million, ran into an early deficit thanks to losing a $180,000 pot to his longtime nemesis, Peter Wang, when kings held up against ace-king. But the hand of the night didn’t involve either of those Hustler Casino Live legends.
The hand we’re referring to started with VC Sam limping from the hijack with K♠K♣, clearly setting the trap for a limp-raise. Jellyfish, back in action, also called on the button with Q♠8♥. Big Mike, the big blind, followed suit with J♣10♥, as did Peter, the first straddle, holding Q♥9♣.
Turbo, the second straddler, could have seen the flop for free with 8♠2♣, but he took a shot at punishing the limpers by raising it to $8,000. That bet, of course, didn’t get through because VC Sam had the second-best preflop hand in Texas hold’em. He had been waiting to limp-raise, and that’s exactly what he did, three-betting to $25,000.
The re-raise, given the hands VC Sam was facing, would normally put an end to the hand. Big Mike, Peter, and Jellyfish all sent their cards into the muck. But Turbo decided to make a move and jammed all in for $149,500.
VC Sam, wearing a Caleb Williams jersey, beat him into the pot with a snap-call. Both players agreed to run the board just once, and Turbo had only 12% equity.
The flop came out J♦8♦9♦, giving Turbo some hope with bottom pair. And the 4♦ on the turn gave him some flush chop outs. Turbo would spike a lucky 8♣ on the river to scoop the $301,000 pot.
“F**k around and find out,” Turbo shouted as he stood up from his seat to celebrate winning a monster pot he tried to punt.
VC Sam left the game down $100,000, while Turbo was up around $170,000 at the time of publishing.
