As the game begins, the dealer shuffles the card deck and distributes the cards face down to each player. The deal follows in a clockwise manner and the remaining cards (stock) are placed at the center of the table. Now players attempt to create different combinations by drawing cards from the stockpile or the waste pile and discarding cards to the waste pile.

2. 10-Card Rummy

Number of players: Two to six players.

Number of cards/card decks used:  One or two standard decks of 52 cards each.

Use of joker: Yes.

10-card rummy is played by two to six players using one standard deck of 52 cards, along with jokers. Each player is dealt 10 cards, one by one. The rules for 10-card rummy are simple. In order to win a game, players have to form different required combinations such as sequences and sets. At least one pure sequence is required to make a valid declaration in this game. 

The point value of each card in 10-card rummy is as follows:

Face cards (A, K, Q, J): 10 points

Jokers: Zero point.

Number cards: Same as face value.

When you play rummy online and make an invalid declaration, the maximum number of penalty points you can get is 60. That means, if the sum of your unmatched cards is more than 60, you will still get only 60 penalty points. 

3. 13-Card Rummy

Number of players: Two to six players.

Number of cards/card decks used: One or two standard decks of 52 cards each.

Use of joker: Yes.

Also known as Indian rummy, it is one of the most popular variations of the classic rummy game. The game rules are quite similar to 10-card rummy. However, at least two sequences are required to make a valid declaration in this version of the game, out of which one must be a pure sequence. 

13-card rummy is played in three different variants: points, pool and deals. Each variant has the same objective but varies slightly in terms of rules and point calculation. Let us learn about them below:

1. Points rummy

It is the fastest variation of Indian rummy, which is played for only for one deal. The game is played by two to six players for a fixed number of points, which have a predetermined rupee value in cash games. The fastest player who makes a valid declaration wins the game and gets zero penalty points.

The winnings are calculated as follows:

Winnings = (Sum of points of all opponents) X (Rupee value of the point) – Rakes (If any)

2. Pool rummy

It is the longest and most exciting variation of the 13-card game. It is played in two formats: 101 pool and 201 pool. The game is played for a fixed entry fee, which ultimately becomes the prize pool. Players who scored 101 points or 201 points get eliminated from the game. The last player remaining at the table takes away the winning amount.

The winnings are calculated as follows:

Winnings = (Entry Fee x Number of Players) – Rakes (If any).

3. Deals rummy

As the name suggests, this variant is played for a fixed number of deals. Each player is allocated an equal number of chips at the beginning of the game. The player with the highest number of chips toward the end of the final deal becomes the ultimate winner of the game. If two players win an equal number of chips, a tiebreaker game is played to decide the winner.

The winnings are calculated as follows:

Winnings = (Entry Fee × Number of Players) – Rakes (If any).
