Southern California is the place to be for tournament poker action this month with the 2025 RunGood Poker Series (RGPS) San Diego Poker Classic beginning Aug. 14 at Jamul Casino.
The series featuring 16 trophy events runs through Aug. 24 near San Diego. PokerNews will be in the house providing our world-class live reporting coverage of the $600 buy-in Main Event, which begins Aug. 22.
Series Highlights
The action begins with a one-day $200 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em tournament. This one features a $10,000 guaranteed prize pool, and it’s the first of seven trophy events offering a guarantee.
On Aug. 15, another great value NLH tournament kicks off with a $50,000 guaranteed prize pool for just a $300 entry fee. The San Diego Poker Classic has a strong mix of poker variants and buy-ins to appease all sorts of tournament poker players. There are NLH, pot-limit Omaha, seniors, bounty, and turbo events on the schedule. It’s a little something for everyone.
But there is no bigger event scheduled than the $600 buy-in San Diego Poker Classic Main Event, which starts Aug. 22 at Jamul. The tournament features a $100,000 guaranteed prize pool.
Four Day 1 starting flights are planned, the first at 11 a.m. on Aug. 22, and the second at 6 p.m. that evening. Two other flights will run at the same times on the following day. Day 2 begins at noon, and the tournament will play down to a winner before the session concludes.
Astivan Batoo is the San Diego Poker Classic defending champion. Last year’s winner, via a three-way chop, took home $33,515. Rafi Makou (second place for $29,497) and Sinan Shathaya (third place for $28,755) claimed the rest of the chop. There were 406 players chasing the title, and the $211,120 prize pool more than doubled the guarantee.
